Theoren Goosney

Theoren Goosney

Board Chair | Committee Member

Growing up in a small town in Newfoundland, Theoren moved to Vancouver to attend the University of British Columbia, where he obtained his BASc in Engineering Physics and competed as a varsity swimmer. He currently works as a Lead Mechanical Engineer for a technology design company in Toronto, and is working towards acquiring his CFA. His interests outside of work include travelling, camping, spending time with friends and family, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Theoren travelled to Honduras in 2016 with the Memorial University of Newfoundland water brigade. He quickly understood the importance of the work of Global Brigades, and how much it empowered the members of so many communities in Honduras. He returned in 2017 in order to continue helping those in the country, and was able to go back to Cuscateca to see the progress that the community and the citizens had made since he was there the summer prior. After working on his professional career for a number of years and through COVID, Theoren has joined the Board of Directors to help grow the organization and inspire the next generation of brigaders to begin helping individuals and communities in Honduras and other countries around the world.

With a strong interest in both finance and technology, Daniel earned a degree in Business Finance and Commerce, building a foundation for over a decade of success in the financial services industry. He has provided a broad range of advisory services, helping individuals and organizations achieve their goals through sound financial analysis and strategic investment approaches.
Daniel currently resides in Ontario, where he supports TD Bank in business optimization and automation, blending his love for problem-solving with a drive to make processes simpler, smarter, and more effective. A strong believer in giving back, he has led and supported numerous volunteering initiatives, applying his skills and experience to create meaningful and lasting impacts in the community.

Mark Wong

Mark Wong is a graduate in medical sciences from the University of Alberta. Originally from the Philippines, he witnessed healthcare inequalities firsthand and strongly resonates with Global Brigades’ mission to address these gaps sustainably and effectively. Global Brigades’ programs offer long-term solutions tailored to the needs of communities, driven by their unique holistic model.

Mark’s journey with Global Brigades began in 2022 when he co-founded the University of Alberta’s first-ever brigade, the Medical Brigades. Inspired by this experience and the holistic approach of Global Brigades, he assumed the role of Campus Chairperson in 2023. In this capacity, he facilitated the creation of two additional successful chapters: the Business Brigades and the Dental Brigades, where he served as a co-lead. He was also a member of the Student Leadership Conference committee and presented on the importance of ethical volunteering in 2024. Mark is grateful for the opportunity to continue contributing as [role here] on the Board of Directors and is excited about the future of Global Brigades Canada.

Professionally, Mark works at the Kurata Lab, researching potassium channels associated with severe epileptic encephalopathy. He also contributes to Global Brigades Canada in various roles, including Alumni Relations Coordinator, Onboarding Officer, and Educational Program Designer.

Looking ahead, Mark aims to pursue a diverse career in healthcare. Outside of his professional pursuits, he enjoys graphic arts, hiking, running, and bouldering.

Julia Hossne

Julia first got to know about Global brigades at a society fair at Dalhousie University in 2019, where GB’s mission and holistic model sparked her interest in becoming part of this student-led movement.

After participating in her first Medical Brigade in Guatemala, Julia decided to start a public health chapter on her campus. In 2023, she assumed the role of Campus Chairperson, where she assisted new volunteers in creating their campus’s first Dental Chapter, as well as organizing and hosting the East Coast Student Leadership Conference of that same year.

She says that some of the aspects that make Global Brigades such a great organization are the excellent partnership between GB and their country communities and staff, their transparency regarding the use of resources and donations, and the long-lasting impact each brigade has on both their partner communities and their student volunteers.

Julia graduated with a double major in Psychology and Biology and currently works as a research assistant in a psychology lab. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, painting, and going indoor climbing with friends.

Kate graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in 2024, specializing in Global and Population Health. She began volunteering with Global Brigades in September 2020, participating in two TeleBrigades and leading an in-person medical brigade to Honduras in 2023 as Chapter President. Throughout her time at Queen’s, she served as Chapter Co-President for three years, demonstrating her dedication to promoting sustainable and holistic health practices.

In 2024, Kate became a Student Board Member on the Global Brigades Canada Board of Directors, where she co-heads the Finance Subcommittee. Her passion for sustainable health practices and her leadership experience make her a valuable contributor to the organization. As a future health professional, Kate is interested in building meaningful relationships with communities, taking on leadership roles in health organizations, and continuing her involvement in global health projects. She is dedicated to addressing health disparities and mentoring future leaders in the field.

Yoorim is an undergraduate student at The University of Toronto, pursuing a double major in Cell & Systems Molecular Biology and Human Biology, along with a minor in Finnish Language Studies. Her journey with Global Brigades began in the summer of 2022. She participated in the Medical Brigade in Honduras, organized by The University of Toronto Global Brigades Student Chapter. The immersive volunteering experience profoundly impacted her to identify her new passion. It broadened her perspective, exposing her to diverse cultures and socio-economic realities.

Motivated by the experience in Honduras, Yoorim has continued her involvement with Global Brigades for the past two years, merging her artistic passion and leadership skills by taking on roles such as Director of Marketing and Design, and Campus Chairperson within The University of Toronto Global Brigades Student Chapter.

She has joined the Boards of Directors to enrich with diverse insights from the student body and deepen her commitment by advocating for the significance of collective actions locally and globally through the holistic model of Global Brigades.

Brandon Machry is a consulting Manager at Deloitte, where he leads public sector strategy and transformation projects across Canada. He has extensive experience advising governments on strategic planning, service delivery, and legislative reform. Brandon holds an HBA from the Ivey Business School and serves on the Global Brigades Health & Development Canada Board as a Director on the Finance, Audit, Investment, and Risk (FAIR) Committee.

Cindy first became involved with Global Brigades in 2019 when she joined the chapter at the University of Toronto. Intrigued by GB’s holistic model and mission, she worked in a variety of roles from Outreach Director to Campus Chairperson, and even Media Coordinator where she published media content to spread awareness about ethical volunteering and sustainable development. She is delighted to continue working on upcoming fundraisers with GB Canada!

After leading her first Brigade to Honduras in 2022, she decided to continue her interest in public health education and will pursue an MPH in the upcoming academic year. She is deeply passionate about helping everyone achieve their desired level of health using community-based approaches.

Cindy is currently working in a cardiovascular clinic in Toronto. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, baking, thrifting, and socializing with friends.

Sadie is an undergraduate student at Queen’s University pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Global Development. Born and raised on Cape Breton Island, Sadie has volunteered and worked for a wide range of local organizations that address inclusion, youth issues, and socioeconomic disparities. Drawing on these experiences, she has developed a strong understanding of community engagement and the importance of holistic approaches when addressing development issues.
Inspired by her local experiences, Sadie became involved with Global Brigades Canada in 2025 as a Student Director on the Brigades and Impact committee. In this new role, she hopes to learn more about GBC’s holistic approach, specifically the intersection of sustainable health, water, and economic systems. In addition, her interest in the organization’s governance
structure and organizational culture will ensure she makes a valuable contribution to GBC. In her free time, Sadie is an avid soccer player and enjoys spending time in the Cape Breton Highlands with her dog and loved ones.

Enoch Tin is a third-year student at the University of Waterloo, studying Accounting and Financial Management. Enoch first joined Global Brigades through a Business Brigade, serving as President and then Campus Chairperson. He has led a virtual Business Brigade to Panama and played a key role in increasing student involvement by launching three campus chapters.

Interested in ethical leadership and clear financial reporting, Enoch has a growing interest in audit practices and the governance of not-for-profit organizations.

When he’s not mentoring student leaders, Enoch enjoys spending time with animals—especially geese.

Aparna began volunteering with Global Brigades in 2019 at the University of Guelph. During her four years with the medical chapter, she served as the Finance and Fundraising Representative, followed by Chapter President in her final year. In 2022, she took on the responsibilities of Campus Chairperson, working to build a Public Health and Dental chapter as well as leading the Eastern Student Leadership Conference. She also led the chapter on medical brigades to Greece in 2022 and Guatemala in 2023.

She is currently studying medicine at Saba University School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Guelph in 2023 with a BSc in Neuroscience.

Driven by Global Brigades’ commitment to sustainability, Aparna hopes to integrate the holistic model of care in her role as a future physician.

Maggie is a dual degree student in Health Sciences and Business Administration at the Ivey Business School at Western University. She is passionate about public health advocacy and health consulting, with a strong focus on breaking down barriers in healthcare and uplifting underrepresented voices.
As an engaged campus leader, Maggie has spearheaded university-wide initiatives ranging from cultural events with 200+ attendees to gender equity workshops focused on breaking the stigma on gender misinformation. She thrives in environments that bring people together to work toward a shared mission. Maggie believes that true impact comes from inclusive leadership and community-driven collaboration, values she’s proud to bring to the Global Brigades Student Board of Directors.

Sophia Silva is currently completing her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biopsychology at Queen’s University. This academic path reflects her deep interest in understanding the intersection of biology and human behaviour, and she brings a thoughtful, engaged perspective to all her pursuits. Last year, Sophia took part in a dental brigade in Honduras, an experience that offered not only hands-on exposure to global health challenges but also a powerful reminder of the impact that collective effort and compassionate care can have in underserved communities. Outside of her studies, Sophia finds balance through reading and rock climbing. Whether she’s exploring new ideas in literature or challenging herself on the wall, she values curiosity, growth, and meaningful connection.

Roxane is an undergraduate student at the University of Ottawa pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences with a specialization in Population and Public Health. Passionate about global health equity and sustainable development, she was drawn to Global Brigades Canada for its ethical and holistic approach to creating lasting change in communities.
As a Student Director on the Fundraising and Development Committee, Roxane is eager to strengthen her leadership skills, gain hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, and continue growing as an advocate for health equity.
Outside of her academic and volunteer work, Roxane is an avid creative who enjoys painting, drawing, photography, and exploring new artistic mediums as a way to express ideas and connect with the world around her.

Luna Butti is pursuing a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) at Queen’s University, where she is passionate about promoting equitable and sustainable healthcare practices. Luna has been actively involved with Global Brigades since joining Queen’s Dental Brigades, where she served as Recruitment Coordinator and helped organize student engagement initiatives.
In 2025, she participated in an in-person dental brigade to Honduras, an experience that strengthened her commitment to ethical global health and community-driven impact. Later that year, Luna joined the Global Brigades Canada Board of Directors as a Student Director on the Fundraising & Development Committee.
As a future health professional, she is dedicated to advancing access to care, supporting innovative fundraising efforts, and inspiring other students to engage in global service.

Sydney Waddington’s philosophy is simple: live and learn while helping others. This mindset has guided her work across global health, philanthropy, and nonprofit leadership, and today serves as the foundation of her role as Executive Director of Global Brigades Canada. In this position, she leads national operations, strategic initiatives, and partnerships that support the organization’s mission to advance health and economic development globally. She is particularly passionate about strengthening access to opportunities, resources, and services in underserved and rural communities, and about helping emerging leaders develop their talents so they can do meaningful work they genuinely love.

Sydney holds a BSc (Honours) in Neurobiology-Psychology and is currently pursuing an MBA. She also serves on several nonprofit boards and committees focused on health, education, and community development. Outside of work, she enjoys ocean swimming, exploring the arts, learning new languages, and immersing herself in different cultures through travel.

Taru graduated with a BSc in Health Science from Western University in 2021, where she developed a strong passion for public health and healthcare, aligning with Global Brigades Canada’s vision of empowering communities through equal access to quality healthcare and essential resources. Her journey with Global Brigades Canada began in 2019 when she volunteered for a medical and dental brigade in Honduras. Following this, she served as a social media ambassador at Western University, contributing to the expansion of the university chapter’s online presence. Throughout the pandemic, Taru continued her engagement with GBC through a medical tele-brigade, gaining valuable experience and establishing meaningful connections. Early 2024, Taru joined the GBC team as the Social Media Manager. Inspired by GBC’s mission, she is dedicated to empowering communities to achieve their health objectives. Through strategic social media initiatives, Taru aims to raise awareness and inspire others to support GBC partner communities, encouraging participation in the impactful volunteer experiences she has embraced as a volunteer and now as a team member. She ensures that every interaction reflects GBC’s values and strengthens our online presence. Outside of work, Taru enjoys cycling, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family.

Fiona is a graduate of the University of Waterloo (BSc. Biomedical Sciences & Dip. French) and Western University (MMASc. Global Health Systems). After being introduced to Global Brigades by a friend in her second year, she became a member of Waterloo’s medical chapter and participated in different events to learn and educate others about health inequities and sustainable development as a general member. Her three years in the UW medical chapter culminated in a brigade to Panama in 2022 where she was able to gain firsthand experience of developing health systems. GB overall fueled a passion in her to further explore the concept of global health, influencing her pursuit of a graduate degree and current career paths.

As the Project Coordinator Lead, Fiona uses her experience and endless enthusiasm to support Global Brigades Canada in managing diverse projects to support the student chapters and board members. She is excited to be able to continue working with an organization that has meant a lot to her professional and personal growth.

Outside of Global Brigades, Fiona works in educational and mentorship roles, including as a tutor, teaching assistant, and childcare staff. In her free time, she enjoys watching YouTube, creative writing, and biking.

Josie is the Program Manager for Global Brigades Canada, supporting the Programming and Outreach Departments. She has been involved with Global Brigades since 2018, participating in a TeleBrigade and Dental Brigades in both Honduras and Panama.

After joining Global Brigades Canada Operations Team as Outreach Manager in 2025, Josie recently transitioned into her current role as Program Manager. She is passionate about Global Brigades’ sustainable holistic model, which empowers communities through ethical, community-led development while creating meaningful experiences for volunteers. She particularly enjoys building strong programs and working alongside dedicated volunteers and team members to create lasting impact.

Josie earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Victoria in 2025 and is currently a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) student at the University of British Columbia, Class of 2030. Her interests include oral health, preventative healthcare, and expanding access to equitable health services.

Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Josie is excited to continue supporting Global Brigades Canada’s mission and the next generation of brigade volunteers.

Victoria serves as the Outreach Team Lead for Global Brigades Canada, where she organizes the outreach departments chapter support and GBC growth initiatives throughout the country. In addition to supporting the outreach team, Victoria collaborates closely with the Programming team to develop and facilitate GBC’s core programs, with a dedicated focus on facilitating and developing GBC’s intern program.

Victoria’s journey with GBC began in 2021 as a founding executive member of the University of Alberta Chapter, where she also participated in their inaugural brigade. This firsthand experience sparked a deep passion for GBC’s mission, inspiring her to become a leading advocate for the organization’s holistic model and sustainable values on campus. She subsequently advanced into roles as a Chapter Leader and Campus Chairperson. After graduating with her BSc from the University of Alberta in 2025, she smoothly transitioned into GBC’s intern program before stepping into her current staff leadership role.

Alongside her impactful work with GBC, Victoria is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Alberta, where her research focuses on diabetes and other exocrine pancreas diseases. When she isn’t in the lab or working she loves playing sports and travelling.

Naomi Noseworthy is a fourth year Environmental Science student at Dalhousie University who started her journey with Global Brigades in her second year as a medical brigader in Guatemala. She was so inspired by her experience that she joined GBC as an intern to help contribute to their cause and gain experience with NGO work. She has worked in the Outreach, Marketing, Programming and Research & Impact Departments supporting projects and operations with analyzing, transcribing, translating and sharing data, among other tasks. In her freetime, Naomi loves being in nature and travelling as much as possible.

Manuel Villaseñor is a graduate of Queen’s University, where he completed an Honours degree in Life Sciences. Aspiring to become a physiotherapist, Manuel is passionate about advancing health equity and improving access to care for underserved communities. Through his experiences growing up in Mexico and volunteering with multiple organizations in the Kingston community, he has witnessed how systemic inequities continue to shape health outcomes and access to resources. These experiences inspired his commitment to advocacy, community engagement, and equitable healthcare initiatives.

As an intern with the Research & Impact Department at Global Brigades Canada, Manuel has supported partnership and educational initiatives through the Research & Impact team that promote sustainable, community-driven approaches to global health. He is particularly interested in physical movement equity and the role rehabilitation and preventative care can play in improving quality of life. Manuel is also passionate about understanding how historical systems and events, including colonialism and foreign intervention, continue to shape present-day social and health inequities around the world. Through his role, he hopes to continue learning from communities while contributing meaningfully to GBC’s mission and partnerships.

In his free time, Manuel enjoys staying active through sports, particularly football (soccer), ultimate frisbee, badminton, and table tennis. He also enjoys collecting different colognes as a personal hobby.

As a Marketing Assistant Intern with Global Brigades Canada, Rudra is excited to contribute to initiatives that support student engagement and advance the organization’s mission. Jiya became involved with Global Brigades Canada through her passion for volunteer engagement and community impact. Following her experience volunteering on a medical brigade in Panama, where she assisted with healthcare initiatives and community outreach, she developed a deeper appreciation for holistic and sustainable approaches to healthcare. In her current role as a Programming Coordinator Intern with Global Brigades Canada, she supports national student chapter programming and initiatives that strengthen volunteer engagement across Canada.

joined Global Brigades Canada (GBC) in her first year at Queen’s University, beginning with her first brigade to Honduras. Since then, she has become increasingly involved, joining the executive team and now serving as Co-President of both Global Medical Brigades Queen’s and Public Health Brigades Queen’s. A highlight of this year was helping host a public health conference in collaboration with Public Health Brigades, an exciting milestone for the chapter. She has participated in three medical brigades in Honduras, Guatemala, and Greece, experiences through which she has built some of her closest friendships, made meaningful connections, and worked alongside communities in impactful ways. What she loves most about GBC is the amazing community—everyone is working toward a common goal of advocacy, and it shows in the dedication and hard work of its members. She is also especially proud of creating educational resources for future brigaders. Kaliyha is completing an Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences at Queen’s University and has contributed to research on developing a community-based diabetes prevention program for children in Trinidad and Tobago and assessing the role of virtual simulation education in addressing discrimination in clinical settings. Outside of academics, she is an indoor cycle instructor, Emergency First Aid Responder, and Style Advisor at Aritzia, and recently planned and led orientation programming for over 5,000 students. She is passionate about healthcare, advocacy, and human physiology, and enjoys painting in watercolour, oil, acrylic, and other artistic mediums.

Hi everyone! My name is Lauryn, and I work as a Marketing Coordinator for Global Brigades Canada. I recently completed my third year at the University of New Brunswick, where I’m pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration. I enjoy connecting with people, helping bring ideas to life through marketing, and being part of a team that creates a meaningful impact. Outside of work, I love sports, wellness and spending time with friends. Stella is an undergraduate student at the University of Ottawa, studying Biomedical Science, with a strong passion for healthcare and community engagement. She began her journey with Global Brigades Canada in 2024 during her second year of university and later stepped into the role of Campus Chairperson.

Through her experiences on Medical Brigades in Honduras and Guatemala, what stood out most to Stella was the opportunity to build meaningful connections with community members, in-country staff, and fellow volunteers. Witnessing the impact of Global Brigades Canada’s collaborative and sustainable approach to community development further strengthened her commitment to service, leadership, and global health.

In the summer of 2026, Stella joined the GBC team as a Youth Development Coordinator. In this role, she is dedicated to creating accessible and educational resources for aspiring brigaders while helping expand awareness of GBC’s holistic model and mission of empowering volunteers and partnering communities.

During her free time, Stella enjoys arts and crafts, playing the piano, and spending quality time with her family.

Board Vice-Chair | Committee Member

Amanpreet brings a wealth of expertise in the not-for-profit and for-profit healthcare sector to the board, with a career marked by extensive experience in operations management and senior leadership. Currently serving as Area Director with Bayshore Healthcare, Amanpreet has been instrumental in driving key initiatives that significantly improve patient care and operational efficiency.

A results-driven leader, Amanpreet believes in fostering a collaborative and innovative environment where teams are empowered to excel. Her leadership philosophy centers on the principles of empathy, continuous learning, and strategic vision, ensuring that both the service users and care providers are prioritized.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Amanpreet is committed to helping the vulnerable populations through her volunteer efforts with Food Bank, and with the advocacy groups such as Ontario Health advisors, caregiver excellence and Women Empowerment. She looks forward to contributing her insights and experience to the board, driving Global Brigades, Canada towards continued success and growth.

Sage (Soyeon) Kim is an H.B.Sc. candidate at the University of Toronto, double majoring in Health Studies and Physiology. She first joined Global Brigades UofT as a Medical Chapter Co-President, later elected Campus Chairperson, and now serves as Student Director. Across these roles, Sage has helped shape a campus-wide vision for responsible global health engagement rooted in equity, partnership, and sustainability.
Her academic and research interests—spanning transplant innovation, clinical AI, and frontline workforce policy—reflect a broader mission to dismantle systemic barriers in healthcare. As Student Director, Sage supports chapter leaders across disciplines in developing transparent, community-informed initiatives aligned with Global Brigades’ long-term development model.
She is especially committed to ensuring student projects emphasize local leadership, cultural humility, and ethical practice. Through training, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration, Sage hopes to empower students to think critically and contribute meaningfully to sustainable global health efforts.
