Role Description

Global Brigades Canada is seeking a detail-oriented, strategically minded FAIR Team Lead to oversee the organization’s financial health, audit compliance, investment strategy, and risk management framework. This role is responsible for safeguarding organizational integrity, maintaining rigorous internal controls, and ensuring that all financial and operational practices align with Canadian charity regulations, internal governance standards, and GBC’s mission.

The FAIR Team Lead oversees GBC’s financial and risk management initiatives, including financial reporting, audit preparation, investment tracking, policy compliance, and risk mitigation across all operations. While the Executive Director and Board of Directors establish overarching organizational policy and strategic direction, the FAIR Team Lead focuses on executing financial strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving sound financial governance day-to-day. The role also provides targeted strategic support to Leadership and Board committees when specialized financial analysis, risk assessments, or compliance reporting are required.

This position blends financial oversight, compliance strategy, risk management, policy implementation, and organizational leadership. It is ideal for an experienced finance or operations professional who is passionate about building sustainable systems, protecting charitable resources, and advancing GBC’s impact across Canada.

 

Compensation: $22 CAD/hour

Main Responsibilities

  • Financial Management
    • Support the preparation of accurate and timely reports, financial analysis and forecasting to inform decision-making for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Assist with day-to-day fiscal management, including tracking expenses, monitoring cash flow, and facilitating invoice payments to keep operations within budget.
    • Maintain organized digital filing systems for all financial records.
  • Audit Preparation & Compliance
    • Maintain complete audit documentation, monitor schedules, and gather requested records to support the FAIR Team Lead and external auditors during the annual audit process.
    • Track provincial registration requirements and compliance deadlines, helping maintain records to ensure adherence to relevant bylaws, policies, and legislation.
    • Assist in drafting, updating, and applying internal financial workflows to maintain operational consistency across the organization.
  • Risk Management
    • Maintain the organizational risk registry and compliance checklist, assisting with the preparation of risk summaries and quarterly reports for leadership and Board review.
    • Assist with routine insurance policy renewals, gather documentation for claims, and  maintain logs of incident reports for brigade-related activities following established escalation procedures.
    • Help maintain current risk and safety documentation and support the delivery of training materials and communications on financial and risk best practices for staff and chapter leaders.
  • Investments & Assets
    • Log transactions, track account balances, and assist in compiling monthly summary reports for investment accounts and reserve funds.
    • Gather data and research ESG-aligned investment products to support the FAIR Team Lead in evaluating options that align with organizational values and charity guidelines.
    • Provide administrative coordination for FAIR committee, including organizing meeting materials, updating portfolio records, and tracking action items related to investment oversight.
  • Process Development & Coordination
    • Assist in drafting, updating, and organizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and administrative policies for FAIR workflows, helping maintain accurate systems as operations evolve.
    • Assist with cross-departmental requests and coordinate scheduling, document sharing, and meeting logistics with external advisors (such as auditors and legal counsel) as directed.
    • Support with tracking vendor and service contracts for compliance, maintaining organized records, logging signature needs for leadership review, and assisting in the preparation of routine departmental updates for committees and the Board.
Qualification

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 12 months (cumulative) in financial administration, ideally in non-profit operations

  • Experience supervising and directing a team of paid and volunteer members

  • Experience supporting structured programs with clear timelines and accountability

  • Familiarity with international development or volunteer programming

  • Experience leading meetings and improving operational workflows

Preferred Background (Not Required)

  • Former Global Brigades experience

  • Early-career nonprofit professional seeking broader leadership exposure

  • Experience with reporting systems or project management frameworks
